About Albania

The Republic of Albania is situated in the South East region of Europe, South-West of the Balkan Peninsula, along the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas. It is positioned between these geographical coordinates: 39o 38’ (Konispol) and 42o 39’ (Vermosh) south-north, 19o 16’ (Sazan Island) and 21o 40’ (Vernik village, Korca) west-east.
The territory of Albania of 28 748 km2 and its population is 3.1 million inhabitants( april 2001). The administrative division of the country consists of 12 prefectures, 36 districts, 374 communes/municipalities.

Size: 28,750 square kilometers (land area 27,400 square kilometers, water 1,350 square km)Location: Southeastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and the eastern part of the Strait of Otranto, opposite the heel of the Italian boot; between approximately 40° and 43° north latitude.
Topography: A little over 20 percent is coastal plain, some of it poorly drained. Mostly hills and mountains, often covered with scrub forest.
The only navigable river is the Bunë.
Climate: Mild temperate; cool, cloudy, wet winters with a January low of 5°C; hot, clear, dry summers with a July high of 28°C; interior is cooler and wetter.
Boundaries: Land boundaries total 720 kilometers; borders with Greece 282 kilometers; border with former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 151 kilometers; border with Serbia 114 kilometers; border with Montengro 173 kilometers; coastline 362 kilometers.

An additional guided tour is available for those who wish to enjoy a 20km tour by coach of the South Coast with its virgin shores and scattered isles.Moving on from the mainland we pass small picturesque villages, endless fertile plains leading to great lake.At the foot of the lake where the Ancient City of Vouthrota is situated, with it's well maintained archaeological monuments and ancient theatre, the visitor is taken 2500 years back in time to the 3rd century A.D., the ancient gymnasium, the Roman ablutions, the ancient temple with the priceless mosaic floor and the enormous stone walls will take you back to a time not know to man.Upon reaching the top of the top of the hill lies the castle of Ali Passa an oddment of the Ottoman Empire, from this position we have a panoramic view of the Ancient City, the lake and vast plains, a breathtaking sight. Upon our return to the city of Ag. Saranta lunch is served. The afternoon allows for a tour of the town, until our departure from the land caught up in time.

By Air:
